I guess the Queen of the Netherlands got a little upset after the recent Autumnal Swedish-House invasion that swept Manhattan, and decided to commission her house-y-est to deliver four performances within a week:
Thursday 1/6 - Avicii - LAVO
Friday 1/7 - Afrojack - PACHA
Saturday 1/8 - Laidback Luke - PACHA
Thursday 1/13 - Chuckie - LAVO
From this upcoming Thursday to next, tri-state house heads essentially have a Pacha sandwich between two slices of Lavo with Mixmash and DirtyDutch layered.
Beginning with the babies: both under 23, Mixmash's Avicii (Tim Berg) and Dirty Dutch's Afrojack will be making their third and fourth appearances in NYC respectively this week. Avicii (ranked #39 DJMag Top 100) made his NYC debut at 2010's Electric Zoo Festival, playing a set which apparently left a lot to be desired. He surfaced a second time in October at Pacha a week or so after the rankings came out and apparently put on a significantly better show. He is best known for his track Bromance and will play for his third time at Lavo this Thursday, being the first DJ on their shedule that I'd spend money to go see since my Calvin Harris experience a few months back.
On Friday the new Pacha NYC will showcase Dirty Dutch's highest ranked (#19) DJ, Nick "Afrojack" van de Wall. Afrojack made his NYC premier last June with the help of friend and long-time NYC promoter RoxyCottontail at Santos Party House, her place of residency, to deliver a mind-blowing set. He played again over the fall in NYC at Provocateur and Electric Zoo, both of which I did not attend. I am very, VERY excited to see Afrojack work Pacha theway he worked SPH over six months ago, because he just has the energy, passion, and track volume to rock the crowd, club, and evening or hours on end. His latest single Replica along with his classics and a slew of remixes will all be likely candidates for the smoke screen, sirens and truck horns to rock your adrenaline this Friday.
House heads may as well snooze in Pachita and pay the bathroom attendant for a squirt of hair spray and a splitz of cologne, because a few short hours after Afrojack lights the decks on fire, Mixmash's headlining veteran and 17th ranked DJ in the world, Laidback Luke will step in front of Pacha's new LED Boards and take control over the truck horn. Luke also recently officially released his new single "Time Bomb" along with a bunch of remixes - of which my favorite is the Gianni Marino Remix. While Luke has been pushing his "Super You and Me" parties, like his last Pacha performance, this will be a regular event. Luke's set at E-zoo was awesome, and I really enjoyed him last July at Pacha - I can't see Saturday being any less the awesome (if you still have energy left in you). I wouldn't be suprised at all if Avicii made a guest appearance considering he's in the area as well.
Finally, next Thursday, January 13th, DJ Chuckie will be hitting the decks behind the Eye Candy Twins for his second performance at Lavo NY. The face of Dirty Dutch and 37th best DJ in the world, Chuckie is a ton of fun to see because he does an excellent job of blending staples and crowd-pleasers with dirtier and un-released tracks - all of which have a much more reggaeton/Caribbean flare than the rest of the Dirty Dutch guys. One of my favorite Chuckie remixes - Mohombi's "Bumpy Ride" can be sampled here.
